I have been representing drivers in Illinois, around the Chicago and Schaumburg areas, in license reinstatement cases for almost two decades. It is important to speak with an attorney to learn how to have your license reinstated after receiving a DUI, because driving on a revoked or suspended license can have harsh penalties. But can you get your license reinstated if you are temporarily living outside Illinois? The answer is yes.
Illinois residents temporarily residing more than 30 miles from the Illinois border, based on the distance on a road atlas measuring the straight-line distance between the Illinois border and the resident's city, for more than 60 days due to employment, education, family education, daycare or military, applying for reinstatement of Illinois driving privileges may submit a Non-Resident/Out-of-State Petitioner Hearing Application by regular or certified mail.
Important to note that you must be eligible for full reinstatement of your driving privileges and not only eligible for a hardship permit.
