Do I need attorney with me at a secretary of state license hearing?

Posted by John Callahan | Nov 11, 2014 | 0 Comments

As a license reinstatement lawyer in Illinois helping clients clear their drivers license through the Secretary of State for more than 15 years, I am often asked whether or not a person should have an attorney with them at a license reinstatement hearing after being revoked to a driving under the influence of alcohol charge. Obviously, my answer will seem a bit biased here but I firmly believe that a quality drivers license reinstatement lawyer will save you money and get you driving faster in the long run.

How? First, I have the knowledge and the know-how to get the basic information from your driving record as well as your DUI arrests so that we have the most important facts that the Secretary of State will be looking for at your DUI license reinstatement hearing. Next, I will analyze your alcohol evaluation and determine whether or not the answers on that evaluation will comply with the secretary of state requirements. For example, if you are a level two significant risk classification, the evaluation should indicate that you have hangovers and/or increased tolerance. If it does not, Secretary of State may not believe your testimony. Finally, you should know that your classification will have certain questions at the license reinstatement hearing such as have you ever been a problematic drinker or are you dependent or have you lost control of your drinking? You need to know the answers to these questions. More importantly, you need to know what the Secretary of State is looking for.

Many clients from within Illinois hire me every year to help them through this process. I also have dozens of clients who have not been in Illinois for more than 10 or 15 years and I have a fantastic success rate of getting them all clear to drive.

If you have any questions about clearing your license in Illinois or need help clearing your revoked drivers license, feel free to contact license reinstatement John W Callahan at any time.
