I have been handling license reinstatement hearings in Illinois for more than 15 years. Recently, I have had several people ask me about retaining me for my services to help reinstate their driving privileges after being convicted of a driving under the influence of alcohol charge. They're telling me that they found a lawyer who typically does not do license reinstatement hearings but will handle it for them at a lower price. In my opinion, not a smart move.
If you have been revoked for a DUI conviction, you know how expensive every month that you cannot drive is. Saving a small portion of money to use a lawyer who is not consistently present and rarely handles license reinstatement hearings is probably not a good move. I have many lawyers call me every week asking me questions about how to answer their last minute questions on license reinstatement issues. The best way to prevent last minute issues from happening is to anticipate the difficult issues before the hearing with the Secretary of State.
I recently, had a prospective client tell me that he found a lawyer who would give him a hearing for 1/2 of the amount I charge. While I understand that money is a VERY big issue for 99% of my clients, the goal is not to GIVE you a hearing. The goal is to guide you and be with you throughout the process, preparing you and steering you in advance of the hearing so that you are 100% ready when the time comes. Then, the hearing is low stress and high success.
I firmly believe that there are only a few lawyers in the State of Illinois who take as much time with their clients and have anywhere near as high a success rate for the license reinstatement candidates as we do.
